Yoga Styles Finding the right class for you
Hatha Yoga The fundamental basis of all yoga forms. Created as a discpline past down orally from guru to disciple in India during the Indus Valley Civilisation, the first physical text solely devoted to yoga was written by Patanjali in 200BC. It is the branch of Yoga that unites physical postures (Asana), with the breath (Pranayama) and meditation (Dhyana) in order to energize and clear the energy channels in the body and mind. At Rose Bay Yoga, our Hatha yoga classes usually suit all levels of students. At a level I stage, we focus on postures, technique and relaxation; as the standard advances, the focus is on flowing and sequencing of postures; developing them to deeper stages and apreciating yoga philosophy. Chakra Yoga Exclusive to Rose Bay Yoga Room. This is a dynamic flowing style of Hath yoga that focuses on detox/cleansing. This style brings awareness to how postures affect the energy centres (chakras) of the body. Suitable for: Open classes- Yoga practitioners with a few months experience or a strong level of fitness. Level II- III- yoga practitioners comfortable with their level of Asana practice. Good fitness level required. Open classes These classes are of a mixed level. You only need a little experience to start attending. The teacher will cater the class to suit the varying levels offering easier options for less experienced students, and more challenging options for regulars. Shadow Yoga Founded by Zhander Remete, is a school of Hatha Yoga based on a practical understanding of the classical yoga texts. Four preludes are used to prepare the student for different levels of asana. The preludes combine the use of warrior forms and sun forms to release obstructions in the peripheral body and the spine. Beginner and advance asana work and pranayama follow on from the preludes allowing the students to experience an awakening of the body of energy and inner stillness. She has devised a flowing sequence that visits all the families of postures; the unusual variations; kriyas; pranayama and meditation techniques. It's strong and challenging- a "workout" for the body and the mind. A strong level of yoga practice is required to attend these classes. Meditation For those yoga practitioners who would like to study the deeper limbs of yoga; for those in need of deep relaxation techniques; for teacher trainees... Dhyana is the 5th limb of Patanjali's 8 limb yoga system. It's the practice of meditating or focusing on a fixed point. In our meditation classes, we focus on a variety of ways to still the "jumping mokey in our mind"... leaving us calm and more able to cope with day to day trials and tribulations.
