Bi-Annual Spring Clean We are now holding our Detox programmes twice a year!! Come and Join. September Detox Dates- Monday 27th September- Friday 1st october- 6-7:45am; Saturday 8-10am. Cost: $150 SANKALPA - EMOTIONAL CLEANSE. A sankalpa is a resolve or resolution. Each detox, we focus on different personal evolutions and revolutions. Recent detoxes have focused on: "pratyahara"- or sense withdrawal which is important when you are trying to stop craving addictions; shatkarmas- cleansing techniques for the internal organs and energetic body etc. For this September detox, we will get "personal". The aim of this detox is to rid ourselves of anger, hatred, fear, jealousy, resentment and any other negative emotion we hold. The asana practice, meditations and discussions will revolve around letting these emotions go, observing challenging situations from a purely objective point of view. History: I started the annual early morning detox workshops a few years ago for selfish reasons. I thought if I organised a group together - then it would help motivate me to detox once a year. The growing group of yogis who join me annually agree that it's great to detox in a group environment instead of as a solo effort. Since 2009, we have held the detox twice a year- in April (as party season winds down) and now in September (before it winds back up again!). We've moved to late September to take advantage of more light in the mornings. What's involved?? This is a 10 day period where we try to rid ourselves of our addictions, cravings, reduce stress by lowering our exposure to media; get fit; toned; zen and healthy. Everyone benefits- you do; and so do the people around you as you become to feel so much better about yourself. Yoga: 6 days of early morning yoga practice. 6-7:45am Monday to Saturday;. Classes consist of cleansing breathing practice; dynamic yoga with emphasis on postures that aid the digestive system, and inspiring meditation sessions. Diet: We recemmend you commence the diet on the Friday prior to the detox so that you can have 2 full weekends without alcohol, caffeine and all the other naughty things that distract us when the working week is over. Yes loads of fresh fruit and vegetables, pulses, gluten free breads, quinoa, burgul, beans, brown rice, seeds, nuts, organic non-dairy alternatives, steamed fish/ chicken (organic off course); Fresh juices; herbal teas: dandelion; vegetable juices No: Caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, added sugars, salt highly processed foods and sauces, red meat of any sort, milk, gluten, cheese; high sugar fruit juices. We do not advise fasting, which leaves you lacking energy. Here are some suggestions: drink a glass of water with lemon juice straight after the class snack on corn or rice cakes with avocado/ nuts/ fruit boil a large pot of brown rice at the beginning of the week to have as main part of most meals. try a breakfast of hot brown rice; rice milk; raisins ... add fruit to taste. get to know the new "superfoods" - quinoa and amaranth try dandelion tea with rice milk to replace your daily cuppa I do suggest, if you have the will power, - to have an easily digestible soup for dinner- that will keep the digestive organs clean and comfy for the pranayama exercises and asanas in the morning . Luckily these detoxes get easier and easier each year as gluten/ dairy free & organic options become tastier and more accessible. Other suggestions for the week. Reduce – television watching- exposure to negative media or environment. Practice non- harming- forgive at least one person/ or maybe everyone who’ve disappointed or angered you Be kind to everyone all week (even on day 3 of caffeine withdrawal!!) Be patient in the car. Even when someone in front/ near you is driving very hazardously!! Be mindful of the environment in which your food was produced – harmful to ecology? Or encouraging of re-growth and fertility. Consider the kind of life the chook had before you bought it at the supermarket. Consider what was used to grow your fruit and veges - how the earth was impacted... how these methods affect your digestive system. Quit one other non-food bad habit (addiction to tv; nail biting; impatient driving; blackberry or iphone; text messaging; gossiping!!) Try and turn your phone off for at least an hour a day and detach yourself from emails/ blackberries/ iphones. On the weekend- maybe try for one whole technology/ media free day!
